Yesterday we took a 3 hour bus ride to the temple of Abu Simbel. It is a massive temple carved into rock, that was bulit by Ramses II thousands of years before Christ. Outside there are 4 sitting statues that are about 30 metres high. Inside there are approx 6 chambers covered with heiroglyphs. There is also a small chamber containing a statue of Ramses. Once per year, on Ramses birthday, the sun shines into the temple and illuminates his face for 15 minutes. He sounds like a very arrogant king! We are amazed at the incredible knowledge the ancient Egyptians had regarding physics, architecture, the cycles of the sun and so much more! It certainly puts our modern intelligence and technology to shame!

Jason went on a 45 minute camel ride thru the desert yesterday. The saddles we definitely not designed with 'male' comfort in mind, but it was a great experience ! They rode by a 6th century monastery and marvelled at how barren the desert really is.

Today we are heading out on our Felucca sail so
we may not be able to update our blog for a few days. We will be spending 4 days slowly making our way down the Nile, sleeping on board at night under the open sky, and having bonfires in the evening. We are so excited!

Thanks to those of you (Linds!!) who leave comments-they make our day!
Love Jason and Kristin :)
