Cairo and Aswan

The last 2-3 days have flown by! Yesterday we visited the Grand Pyramids which were incredible! We were able to go into the main burial chamber in the 2nd largest pyramid. It involved crouching down and walking through a tiny tunnel and back up again. The air was stale and stiffling, and it was overwheling to realize that these pyramids have been here for thousands of years before Christ. We also visited the Sphinx, which is actually quite a bit smaller than we expected. Breathtaking none the less.

Last night we took an overnight train from Cairo to Aswan, a 13 hour trek. The train was outdated and dusty--certainly an adventure! Today we spent the day relaxing on the pool deck that overlooked the Nile. Tommorrow we are getting up at 3:30am to head to Abu Simbel, a famous temple, in order to beat the heat of the day. Jason is very excited to ride a camel in the desert!

Our tour guide told us the weather has been very strange for this time of year--oversast and windy, but still very hot. When you look out over the desert it appears hazy from all of the sand and dust being blown around. Exactly what we imagine a desert to be!

Our tour has been fantastic so far! There are about 10 of us and we all get along great. Our tour guide is so helpful and knowledgeable--we feel very taken care of! And now we are off to bed because we have an early start in the morning!

Love Kristin and Jason

  1. Oooh....so exciting! I cannot wait to see pictures. It all sounds so amazing. I can only imagine how intense it must be to see those pyramids. I think they are just one of those unexplained phenomenons...
    Cannot wait to hear more!
